Ch-ch-ch-changes

No, this weird mushroom growing out of a bag of fertilizer in my backyard has nothing to do with today's post. I just thought it was cool. Anyone know what it is? Looks kinda like an oyster mushroom.

A minor face lift today. You'll note a few things:

I mucked with the template. When I was setting up the blog I just picked the first thing that looked appealing. One of the things I didn't really like was if you maximize the screen it didn't let you see more content, the dead space borders just expanded. So this template stretches. We'll see how that works out for me.

Yes, I've joined the foodbuzz following. I'm still exploring the community, but what it looks like is a foodies version of facebook/myspace. A few of the bloggers from the Uchi event had joined foodbuzz as a featured publisher. Basically this forms a partnership (yes that means ads) where we, as foodies and bloggers, help a community with content continued posts etc. and in return they give us more exposure and actually sponsor events around the nation. I'll post more as I learn more. All that *and* I have my little badge as a featured publisher.

Ads: I know, i've fought against putting ads on my site for quite sometime now. Reallistically, I'm not generating (nor do I expect that I will any time soon) enough traffic for ad revenue to really help me in any financial way. That said, a lot of the foodbuzzers had a lot of positive things to say about folks they've met from the community, and how foodbuzz helps foster that. Foodies unite! I know i'm no professional writer or even photographer, but I am still proud of my little hobby site and would love more folks to come visit.

Thanks for everyone's continued support. Still searching for a good bento for next week. Ideas are most welcome!

Well heck I just tried to comment and screwed it up. What was I saying? Mostly that I don't completely understand the whole foodbuzz thing but the cool badge makes it all worthwhile :)

Yeah I have to agree. I don't completely understand the content organization. Some places my new posts show up. Some places they don't I have no idea how to make some of that stuff work. But apparently I already have "friends"

This is actually a post that's been sitting in the queue for quite some time. A while back we had a Taiwanese potluck where everyone brought a food favorite from Taiwan. I didn't have a favorite food so I said I'd make whatever someone wanted. TRIP: London 2013 Pt1

Ok more traveling, this time to London, first week for work (above is our view of Buckingham Palace from our office) and second week for vacation with my wife. Lots of pictures of a lot of different food, I've manage to cut the number of photos to the highlights of what and where we ate. I've put links to the various places just in case you're in the area and want to check out some of these places. Sorry in advance about some of the photos I shot everything using a Galaxy S3 mini android phone that I acquired while on this trip and it does a pretty good job, but under low light it gets a bit grainy. Got off the plane bright and early 6am and dropped my bags at the hotel. While there I started my trip off with a classic English breakfast. Holiday Bird ala the Orion Cooker "la torre del diablo"

I've talked a bit about my Orion Cooker or as I like to call it, "la torre del diablo" (the tower of the devil) and lots of people come and visit looking for info on the orion cooker and turkey. So today I'm going to chronicle the step by step of cooking a turkey and hey look, just in time for xmas. It all starts with the brine. As many of you know the best way to get a nice juicy turkey is to brine it before hand. It allows helps the meat retain moisture through the cooking process and you can impart some nice flavors. I used a slightly modified brine recipe (see below) by my favorite food geek/hero, Alton Brown. It's quite simple really, you need a high salt content I believe the rule of thumb is one cup each of salt and sugar for every gallon of brine. In this case, the vegetable stock has salt in it, and I trust that's why there's less salt in the recipe, and of course the word of Alton Brown is never wrong he is after all the culinary equivalent of C
