Eating in a box

So yes I know it's been a while. After returning from Sydney back to Austin, my wife and I decided we should take time off together and travel. It's a rare thing for both of us to be off and not be constrained by vacation days left.  We've seen some neat places and had some wonderful food. And as much as I have been posting about my trips here, it was far easier to post a few pictures on facebook. Long form posting is a tough thing to keep up with, and I was taking a break to recharge so that meant that this blog too had to take a break. It's hard taking pictures, touching up and choosing what you want to talk about. I am surprised I have been able to manage doing this for 10 years. Of course as a man of leisure there's much video game playing and lego building, a tough life to be sure, but I accept the responsibilities with great care and seriousness. Day 2 was a bit uneventful food wise, but I'm writing it up none the less since I need to get back on the blogging habit. We went and saw the Spiderman Broadway show (the picture is Time Square at night, we stayed right off Broadway). The show was quite good, the wire work to swing Spiderman thru the audience was pretty spectacular. Our seats were within 20 yards of the stage and we managed to get them at half price. I could have stayed a few more days just to catch a few more of the shows, they have a "day of" ticket counter where they sell excess tickets at half price and if you're willing to "get what you can get" it's a great value. I got my obligatory slice of NY pizza. I have since cruised past several pizzerias and I regret taking the first slice I got. The folks at Promise Pizza invited a few of us over to tell us their story and dish out their pies. Promise Pizza literally started out of a garage of one of the owners where they set about perfecting their pizza recipes. The thing that really sets Promise pizza apart from your run of the mill pizza joint is that they are focused on natural and organic fresh pizzas. This required quite a great deal of research, trial and error, but a well fed neighborhood no doubt appreciated their experimentation. From their company owned fleet of deliver Smart Cars to building their facility according to Austin Green Building certification, Promise pizza has a second mission of social responsibility. This includes their cooking facility, equipment, and even offsite facilities (more on that later), a lot of thought and planning went into building the identity of this "more than meets the eye" pizza parlour.
